An evening of story-telling with young climate change leaders in Australia for two weeks of talks.

It’s Pow Wow time again! After eleven years of celebratory dance, song, and drumming, this year’s 11h Annual Rock, Rattle & Drum Pow Wow will explode in another weekend of American Indian music, dance, education, entertainment, arts and crafts vendors and cultural festivities fun for the whole family!
For two exiting days, Bennington, Vermont will be the center of Native American art and culture where American Indians will gather and share the richness, diversity and beauty of their Indigenous culture.

Shared meal and showing of the fim by Marie-Monique Robin ‘Qu’est-ce qu’on attend?’, as part of the events for Pesticide Action Week. Seven local associations have helped organised the event and will take part in the debate following the showing of the film. The film tells the story of the town of Ungersheim in Alsace, France, which undertakes 21 actions for the 21st century to reduce their carbon footprint.

We will be flying kites for Peace at a game park in Harare Zimbabwe. We will be hosting 40 charities who will be fundraising and spreading awareness of their causes. We hope to inspire unity hope peace gratitude and love

Sankofa: Reclaiming relevant indigenous cultural and ancestral values to make a case for nature-based solutions

The chieftaincy, elders and people of Funko community-located in the Western Region of Ghana- honored World Water Day by creating awareness about the need for circumspection when adopting vices or policies which consequently cause public health problems and are detrimental to the environment. Illegal/unsustainable mining – popularly referred to as “Galamsey”in the country- and fringe activities which indirectly empower the practice are examples of such vices.

The Funko community is close to the Ankobra river and, symbolic of the strong inter-connectivity still existent between most societies and their natural environment. This river is an important source of drinking water for many communities in the Western Region of Ghana- and beyond- but continues to be polluted through illegal mining activities. It flows at least 120 km south to the Gulf of Guinea (Atlantic) and is located very close to the western part of Axim, a commercial center of the river basin.

In celebrating this important day, we sought to highlight the important role some historic cultural practices (spoken word, dancing and drumming) and community dialogues can play in influencing the re-adaptation of relevant conservation values which were more commonly applied by the ancestors. Overall, the concept of Sankofa is espoused. Sankofa is a Ghanaian-originated cultural principle which literally means to take back what was lost in order to protect the future. This -arguably- manifests the tenets of sustainability. There are many of such doctrines in many communities across the world.

The principle teaches communities the importance of going back to their roots- and reclaiming worthy values- in order to move forward. For example, the indigenous and unadulterated local anthropological cognition reveres some key natural receptors – such as rivers, wetlands and forests- as deities. By tapping into the novelty of such values, the current mega trend of sustainability would be well anchored and in a way which significantly addresses most of the conservation, food security and sub regional stability challenges existent now. A cultural dance and community dialogue were among the activities undertaken to commemorate the day.

On World Water Day, the funding partner and collaborator for the performances –who is also the founder of Windhouse Resources Systems (WRS)- would reach out to stakeholders to solicit input on case studies concepts intended to be develop in order to make a stronger case for nature-based solutions. WRS is a boutique sustainability consultancy located in Ghana – West Africa.

EarthX Presents the World’s Largest Environmental Expo, Conference and Film Festival in Dallas

With a mission to connect the global community to create a sustainable world for all life and future generations, Texas-based nonprofit EarthX is hosting the world’s largest environmental expo, conference and film festival from April 13-22, 2018, at locations throughout Dallas.

The EarthX three-day expo, five-day group of conferences and 10-day film festival champions progress and innovation by bringing together environmental organizations, businesses, academic institutions, government agencies, interactive programming and thought leaders. The event also fosters celebration with interactive and immersive family entertainment, live music and sustainable food pavilions.

Founded in 2011 by Dallas-based environmentalist and businessman Trammell S. Crow, EarthX, formerly known as Earth Day Texas, began as an outdoor event spanning five blocks of Flora Street in the Dallas Arts District. It has grown to occupy approximately 1/2 million square feet of indoor and outdoor event space in Dallas’ historic Fair Park. In 2017, the event drew 116,000 attendees, 800 exhibitors, more than 250 speakers. Approximately 1,200 volunteers will be needed to put on the massive event this year. Exhibitors of EarthxExpo, taking place at Fair Park April 20-22, include The National Audubon Society, Greenpeace, and The Plastic Soup Foundation, a nonprofit focused on reducing ocean plastic from Amsterdam, NL.  EarthX has partnered with Trees for the Future to plant as many trees as possible in five African countries during the expo as well as with The Great Seed Bomb and City of Dallas for the weekend-long Seed Bomb Blowout to help increase vital pollinator habitat here at home. In addition, Oncor will showcase the new Nissan Leaf with examples of EV charging stations, UPS is bringing its interactive education trailer on alternative fuel transportation, and TxDOT’s Don’t Mess with Texas Program offers an interactive virtual reality game about litter prevention.

EarthxExpo attendees can experience a wide range of educational and interactive activities for the whole family during the three-day event. There is plenty to do and see focused on sustainability and green living, from an Outdoor Adventure Zone featuring scuba diving to tree climbing and goat yoga and an Interactive Zone with virtual and mixed reality, to exploring a Tiny House Village or enjoying the Eco Auto Show, E-Bike track and science education trucks.

Prior to the launch of the expo and conferences, EarthxFilm will commence on April 13 and run through April 22. EarthxFilm uses the power of film and emerging media to raise awareness of global environmental issues. Over 10 days, EarthxFilm will present over 60 features and shorts at screenings and events across the city.  EarthxFilm’s educational components include Youth Online Filmmaking Competitions (open now), in-school screenings and hands-on workshops at EarthX. An EarthxFilm Awards Ceremony will be held on the last day of the festival, Sunday, April 22.

On Friday, April 20, EarthxGlobalGala will be a star-studded evening event that honors visionary leaders in environmental education, film and television.  The Global Impact Awards will be given during this fascinating, fun and interactive night at the Perot Museum of Science and Technology.

The climate and environmentally conscious get together for this two-day event held in Yoyogi Park. Non-profit organisations have stands among the food stalls and there are musical performances and dances on the main events stage. The event runs from 10am to 8pm on the Saturday and until 7pm on the Sunday.

As we mark the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., we will march in the spirit of the prophetic declaration he made the night before he was killed: “The choice is no longer violence or nonviolence; it’s nonviolence or non-existence.”  In this moment of truth, we will call on the nation to choose a culture of nonviolence free from war, poverty, racism, and environmental destruction.

Now is the moment of truth for taking action – and for recommitting to the power of truth itself, in light of the many false or misleading statements made by the administration. On September 22, we will take action for peace, economic equality, racial justice and environmental healing – and for a new spirit of truth and nonviolence.

9:00 am: Rally at the statue of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on the Southside of the Lincoln Memorial, near the Jefferson Memorial Tidal Basin.

10:00 am: Silent March. We will line up in pairs holding signs and walk in silence from the Dr. King statue past the Lincoln Memorial to the front of the White House, where we will stand in silence with signs in Lafayette Park. While some keep vigil in front of the White House, others will participate in nonviolent direct action.

Program Objectives
In this powerful three-day program, we will use the latest research in neuroscience, the bio-physiology of compassion and well-being, and dynamic findings from organizational behavior and psychology to learn the skills of resilience and creating thriving organizations.

Startup Green is a two-day accelerator platform for cleantech entrepreneurs, providing professional one on one mentorship, access to investors, and the opportunity to present at the 2017 AREDAY Summit.

Startup Green, now in its third year, is an essential program of the American Renewable Energy Institute initiated to strategically utilize our 1,000+ alumni network.  Top leaders have been gathering at the AREDAY Summit for 13 years. ACELI

Since 2004, American Renewable Energy Day (AREDAY) has been bringing top leaders and educators together to promote the rapid deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency strategies via demonstrations, presentations and dialogue. Each year, AREDAY has hosted nationally and internationally renowned speakers and attracted attendees from across the globe – resulting in unique, powerful cross-sector collaborations and a call to action around the issue of climate change. In 2012 AREDAY became a project of the newly formed not-for-profit, American Renewable Energy Institute, Inc. (AREI). The development of the American Climate and Energy Literacy Initiative (ACELI) moves the AREDAY Summit beyond a yearly conference in order to build clean energy job training and public education on climate change solutions.

We recognize the urgent need to prepare for global change, as a result of the build-up of carbon in the atmosphere that is impacting ecosystems, economies, and energy use. ACELI is positioned uniquely to respond to the urgent need and will serve as a public-private collaboration to foster resiliency and sustainable practices in connected communities across the country. ACELI projects and curriculum will enhance existing programs and initiatives, fostering synergistic activities and opportunities between educational and industry partners. We are creating and implementing publicly accredited programming for community colleges and K-12 public schools with a turn-key model that adheres to national core standards.

ACELI educational programming is being developed and will be available in four different formats:

• Public Education Curriculum of accredited coursework offered through various Community Colleges
• A series of Speakers Programs offered throughout the year both for public attendance, in K-12 and Community College Classrooms
• Junior Climate Ambassadors K-12 Classroom Projects and Programs to promote climate and energy literacy while advancing science and math standards. Online curriculum development, including an interactive platform for students to share and collaborate on projects.
• AREDAY Video library archive of prominent Keynotes, Panel Discussions, and Power Point Presentations of nationally recognized experts and business leaders in the Renewable Energy and Sustainability fields from the AREDAY Summit programs.

RENEW

The newest program of AREI, RENEW is the retrofit of the built environment to a carbon neutral or net zero standard, moving toward the ultimate goal of carbon or net positive buildings. With approximately 120 million residential homes and 60 billion square feet of commercial real estate constituting the greatest national use of fossil energy, RENEW is designed to reduce energy use while increasing economic savings.

RENEW creates awareness of climate change solutions through net zero retrofitting projects in critical areas of high energy consumption. From resort communities, like Snowmass Village, Colorado, to retrofits in urban areas such as Detroit, Chicago, and Denver, the goal of RENEW is to stimulate job creation in renewable and energy efficiency sectors, while creating measurably reduced energy use in each retrofit. Demonstration projects will include local, regional, and national educational outreach and awareness campaigns, policy initiatives based on a project overview, as well as a tandem effort of on-site job training with our educational branch, The AmericanACELI.

RENEW’s pilot project, began in Jan 2013, at the Goodwin residence, in Snowmass Village, CO. This home is typical of high energy use homes in the Aspen and Snowmass area, and represents a real energy consumption issue in the Roaring Fork Valley. While this home is a year round residence, many like it are vacant for many months of the year, yet require heating and cooling even when unoccupied. Through a coordinated effort with local energy contractors, trades, and renewable energy experts, our team redesigned the energy systems of this home, implemented air sealing and weatherization of the building shell, and added renewable energy after significant energy efficiency measures were taken. As a result of these improvements, this project is reaching its NET ZERO goal.

NET ZERO: A building produces as much energy as it uses, bringing it to a carbon neutral operating level.

CARBON/NET POSITIVE: A building produces more clean energy that it uses, delivering clean energy back to the grid.

The further goals of RENEW are to recommend policy and initiatives on both local and regional levels that will support the overall vision of the RENEW program.

FusionFest Shorts

90 minutes | 2019

See a collection of short films about Central Floridians of diverse origins and heritages in the screenings of the FusionFest Short Film Contest. In late August, the GPFF is running the MYgration film contest that will produce 3- to 5-minute films about people from around the world who make Central Florida their home. These films will be presented during the GPFF and audience members will have two opportunities to vote for their favorite film from the contest during the festival. An Audience Award will be presented at the conclusion of the Saturday screening. FusionFest is a free, two-day celebration of the diverse origins and heritages of our Central Florida community that will be held in Downtown Orlando on November 30 and December 1, 2019. All the MYgration films will be shown in a special film pavilion throughout the FusionFest weekend and a jury award of $1000 will be presented to the winning film.
